November 21, 2014 Leave a comment

TechFloorWhat garage flooring should I choose? Chances are if you’re in the market for a garage floor you’re asking yourself this question. With so many different options and benefits to chose from, this process can be overwhelming. Lucky for you, you can get all the benefits in 1 tile. As you read this you will learn about the flooring solution for anyone, anywhere.

WeatherTech, the innovators behind TechFloor, have their vision set on being the fresh leadership America needs to lead it out of the economic crisis. Not interested in cutting corners to save a few pennies, WeatherTech is bringing factories back to America and is proactive in recycling all unused raw materials .. Everything from the machines that mold your floor tiles, to the shelves they are stored on are – you guessed it, made in the U.S.A. WeatherTech founder and CEO David Mcneill’s philosophy is - “If my neighbor doesn’t have a job, sooner or later I won’t have a job”.

Hiring American engineers and using advanced manufacturing, WeatherTech’s TechFloor is changing the way we look at garage tiles- and quite frankly, our lives. Thanks to these modular tiles, we would like to be the first to welcome you to the future of garage flooring. As a testament to the quality materials, and the engineering process, each modular tile is low cost and backed by a lifetime warranty.

One of the first things you’ll notice about Techfloor is that there is a modular tile and color for any application, and an accessory to aid any installation. Whether its a solid tile, or a vented tile for liquid to pass through you will see these tiles installed as garage floor tiles, bathroom tiles, kids room flooring, basement flooring, and as deck tiles.. You get the idea, a truly universal garage tile.

Techfloor Premium tiles are the only modular tiles with 2 distinctive materials (rubber and polypropylene) in each tile. Wondering what polypropylene is? Don’t worry, we’ve been there. It is a moldable, low cost, lightweight plastic that can handle heavy weight, is resistant to color fading, and resistant to any chemicals that can leak out of your car. The rubber is injection molded into the tiles as traction squares that can be found on the top and bottom of the tile. These garage tiles give you the inherent anti-fatigue qualities of rubber, plus a wet or dry anti slip surface on the top and bottom of your modular tiles. It makes sense why these are the perfect material for your garage floor tiles.

Five Myths about Rubber Flooring

  1. Rubber flooring is great for use as garage flooring.

This myth is one of the most common we have seen and is the single reason why we decided to get into the garage flooring market years ago. In fact Google itself says that 590 people search for the term “rubber garage flooring” every single month in the USA. So why isn’t rubber flooring good for use in garages? Well the reason we don’t recommend using rubber flooring in garages is because 90% of the rubber flooring sold in the U.S. is made from rebonded rubber.  Rebonded rubber is essentially rubber that is held together by polyurethane based glue. If oil or solvents spill on rebonded rubber flooring, the polyurethane glue will break down over time and thus break down the flooring. That is why we do not recommend using rubber flooring in garages but rather recommend different alternatives such as PVC or polypropylene flooring. If you did want to use rubber flooring as garage flooring, then we would just advise that vulcanized rubber flooring or virgin rubber flooring be used. Vulcanized and virgin rubber are not adhered together with glue but rather melted together with heat to form extremely durable rubber flooring that is resistant to break down from oils and solvents.

Garage Floor Tiles

Garage floor tiles are the most popular garage flooring purchased today by the do-it-yourself homeowner.  Tiles are one of the easiest floor coverings to install and typically interlock or have a peel and stick backing.  Garage tiles can be made of a durable polypropylene (basically a really strong high density plastic composite), a flexible PVC material (people like this because it feels like rubber underfoot and is quiet and has some cushion to it), or peel and stick vinyl tiles.  Tiles are also a favorite of people who want a custom look since numerous colors can be combined in order to create custom patterns such as a checker board pattern, a floor with a border, and more.  Tiles also have the largest variety of color options available and even have numerous surface patterns available.  Coin pattern, diamond pattern, and a vented tile patterns are the favorites of most people however slate pattern and numerous other textured patterns are also available.   Garage tiles, like all garage floor coverings, are designed to be chemical and stain resistant.  However, should a tile become damaged in any way, they also offer the benefit of being able to be popped out and replaced.

So what is the down side to tiles?  Read more…
